On keeping a useful field notebook
A fictional sample note about memory, margins, and leaving room for change.
A fictional example
This sample exists only to demonstrate the garden layout. It does not describe the site owner or a real event.
A useful notebook does not need to be complete. It needs to make returning easy: dates, a little context, and enough empty margin for the next thought.
A simple rhythm
- Capture the observation.
- Add why it seemed worth keeping.
- Return later and connect it to another note.
